It's a common misconception that, to truly be part of a Movement, you need to be there from its very first breath. And while you are reading this article, I hope to prove this misconception false.

My story starts around August 2025. I was just starting my sophomore year of high school when my camp best friend told me that I must join BBYO. At this point in my life, I was a full-time NFTY kid who couldn't see herself joining this Movement.

I thought to myself that by the time I joined, not only would it be impossible to get involved, but I would make no friends because of how late I was joining. But after months on end of asks and encouragement from my friend, I finally built up the courage to attend my first program.

October 22, 2025, was the day my life changed forever. I went to my first-ever program, Pickles and Pickleball, and from the moment I got there, I knew that this was where I was meant to be. From that point on, my life changed from being a girl who didn’t see a purpose in attending youth group to someone who couldn't wait for the next event.

One of the greatest life lessons that BBYO taught me is that it is truly never too late to join.

Though I had only been a member for four months, I earned my chapter's first social media chair position. After five months, I went to my first regional convention and signed up for a summer program. Finally, after seven amazing months, I was elected my chapter's Fall Term Mit Mom.

My late entry into this Movement isn't just a unique situation; it's proof of BBYO's core values of leadership development and an inclusive community. This Movement allows for opportunity, growth, and a place for each and every member, no matter how long you have been here.

The structure of BBYO, with its chapter-, regional-, and international-led programming, provides an easy way to get more involved in the Movement. Whether it's leading social media to connect with peers, participating in conventions to meet new people, or stepping into an elected position that requires you to share your love for BBYO with others, BBYO provides a pathway for growth for each and every one of us.

Overall, my experience wasn't just about catching up; it was about being given the opportunity and the confidence to join something new.

And now I can confidently say that BBYO is right: it is truly never too late to join.
